Drell are a Race in Mass Effect 3. Drell are omnivorous reptile-like humanoids that have an average lifespan of 85 galactic standard years. This race appears similarly to the Asari and Humans when it comes to their size but making them stand out with more dense tissue build and unbelievable strength.. Races in Mass Effect 3 have their own agendas, culture, religion, ways to govern etc. Since Commander Shepard is inevitably Human, the approach of the other Races towards Humanity is most of the time visible for the player. Many of the perceptions some Races used to have may have changed thanks to the efforts of Commander Shepard in the prequels.
Drell Information
The ancestors of the Drell emerged from the dry, rocky deserts of the barren world of Rakhana. Around eight centuries ago, the Dreell's homeworld lacked resources to keep its planet from dying, where eventually, the population of the Drell met its impending doom. During this period, Hanar made its first contact with the Drell who rescued the dying race.
To those who survived, the Hanar would transport hundreds of Drell to the world of the Hanar for refuge, Kahje, while most of the Drell was left in the dying planet of Rahana. The Drell had no other choice but to live and prosper amongst the Hanar for about two centuries. The debt of gratitude that the Drell owes the Hanar is referred to as the Compact, which the Drell fulfills by taking on tasks that the Hanar finds difficult, tasks such as combat.
Since the Drell originated from the dry and rocky deserts, the hometown of the Hanar was tolerable for the Drell only when they stayed inside a climate-controlled dome city. This caused the death of countless Drell who were cumulatively exposed to a humid climate on a long-term basis. This was referred to as Kepral's Syndrome. the sickness attacked the ability of the Drell's lungs to take oxygen making it difficult to breathe and slowly spreading throughout the other organs - despite this Drell scientists continued on finding a cure with its hopes of saving their race.
The Drell race appears with more reptilian features, they have five fingers on each hand, albeit the ring and middle fingers are fused. Their skin is apparently infused with a venom mild enough to be served in drinks, and may cause mild hallucinations on "oral contact". They also have two sets of eyelids, akin to the nictitating membrane possessed by certain animals such as reptiles. The inner lid is milky-white and closes from the left and right, while the outer lid is black and closes from top and bottom.
