Locations in Mass Effect 3 are the areas the players explore during their journey. Mass Effect 3 takes place in the Milky Way but can take Commander Shepard all along the galaxy, exploring clusters, planets, space stations or starships.
You will find a lot of places to visit during your journey to stop the Reapers. Planets, moons, or asteroids are the last link in a chain that includes Systems and begins with Clusters. For example, Earth is a planet, inside the Sol System within the Local Cluster.
The Galaxy Map is back in Mass Effect 3. Although there are some significant changes to it. To traverse the Galaxy Map, you need fuel. If you manage to empty your fuel, you will be returned to the gateway system.
- You can see some star clusters sport an icon above them. This icon indicates the clusters are currently being invaded by the Reapers.
- Resources are not obtained by activating a scan while exploring individual star systems and then investigating red "blips" from the scan. Keep in mind that scans only cover a limited area around the Normandy, so you may need to scan several locations in order to locate all available loot in a star system.
- Resources are not limited to fuel, credit rewards, and War Assets.
If you decide to scan systems invaded by Reapers multiple times, this will eventually draw their attention, resulting in their ships chasing you around the star system. To evade your pursuers, simply leave the star system or activate a mass relay.
Reapers will continue to patrol the star system in which the Normandy was detected and will chase you again if you re-enter it, until a certain amount of time has passed. To do so, you have to complete a few Missions.
