Rannoch: Geth Fighter Squadrons Full Walkthrough

Getting Started

This mission is acquired automatically upon the conclusion of Priority: Geth Dreadnought.

Completing either this mission or Rannoch: Admiral Koris is a prerequisite for starting Priority: Rannoch. You can complete both quests before starting Priority: Rannoch. Otherwise, the remaining quest becomes permanently unavailable.

Squad composition is not important in this mission as there is no combat involved, only light puzzle elements. Note that for the purpose of this guide, it is assumed Legion survived the events of Mass Effect 2 and is present in the playthrough. Otherwise, Geth VI will take on its role.

When ready, chart a course for Rannoch and select the Geth Comm Hub NavPoint.

Walkthrough

The mission opens to a scene on the shuttle as Shepard discusses with Legion regarding removing Geth from the server to disable the fighter squadrons. To Shepard's surprise and confusion, Legion expects him to virtually enter the Geth consensus and interface with the systems. Legion assures safe contact via refinement of the interface and access to equipment from the Normandy and requests only your trust. Legion then splits off from the squad to disable security countermeasures but reunites with the group shortly. Shepard then enters a pod and is uploaded into the Geth consensus. Your goal here is to get to the two communication nodes in order to sever the Geth's connection to the server.

When you regain control, follow the path being laid out for you as you go. Eventually, you will run into Reaper code infections preventing your progress. These are presented as orange blocky trails that weave over and around the main path. Simply shoot them with your gun to break the code and resume passage. Continue along the fairly linear path and you will reach a pillar of light. Step inside to get to the first Access Point. Once inside, Legion will tell you that your access is denied and it will ask you to clear the infection surrounding large data clusters you come across which look like giant masses of blocks surrounded by the same orange infections. Clearing these will then treat you to video presentations from the Geth archive showing certain scenes from the past. Look to the left of the first cluster you see for a long trail of Reaper code which can be interacted with. Doing so will net you some Reaper Code Fragments, which is required for the Side Mission Citadel: Reaper Code Fragments. Proceed towards the data cluster and clear the infection. After clearing three such clusters, you will come across another pillar of light which is the exit for this access point. Exiting will trigger a quick cutscene with your companions being contacted by Admiral Raan, informing them that half of the Geth forces have gone offline.

Continue along with the same process for the next section but note that certain Reaper code trails may now self-replicate, restoring the infected code unless you shoot other trails in the vicinity in quick succession. Proceed towards the large data clusters, freeing them from the Reaper code. Be sure to search around the clusters thoroughly for more infection trails. Again, restoring each cluster will playback a video of former events. After the final cluster and video, Legion will show Shepard an extra video from when they first met, calling the event "highly significant". Note that this scene does not occur if Legion is not present. Clearing this cluster will spawn another pillar of light. Stepping inside will trigger another cutscene showcasing the rest of the Geth forces going offline.

Back in the virtual world, Legion instructs you to disconnect from the server. Proceed towards the pod at the end of the path. Shepard returns to reality. as several Geth Primes awaken and step out of their pods but do not attack. Legion says it was able to convince the hostile Geth to rejoin their cause against the Reapers. You acquire Geth Prime Platoon as a War Asset as a result and the mission comes to a close.
