Reapers are a Race in Mass Effect 3. Reapers are an ancient race of machines and was referred to as the "Old Machines" by the Geth.. Races in Mass Effect 3 have their own agendas, culture, religion, ways to govern etc. Since Commander Shepard is inevitably Human, the approach of the other Races towards Humanity is most of the time visible for the player. Many of the perceptions some Races used to have may have changed thanks to the efforts of Commander Shepard in the prequels.
Reapers Information
The Reapers are the primary antagonist of the Mass Effect trilogy, their goal is to harvest and wipe out all organic species around the galaxy and to create more Reapers. And once their goal is complete, they are to remove any traces that could lead to their existence and return back into deep space where they cannot be found.
The Reapers are extremely advanced artificial life forms constructed of both organic materials and synthetic parts.
They are an amalgamation of species that have been harvested during each cycle - it is revealed during Mass Effect 2 that the Reapers use the biological material of a species to create new Reapers, thus allowing them to use the new Reaper to begin a new harvest.
