How to Romance Tali

Prerequisite

Tali must survive the events in Mass Effect 2, specifically, the Suicide Mission (Final Battle). Apart from that, you must have started a relationship with her in Mass Effect 2 so that you can rebuild or rekindle it in Mass Effect 3.

Romance for Tali in ME2

When Tali joins the Normandy crew, Kelly Chambers tells Shepard that Tali may be interested in him, and asks him to be good to her. After her Loyalty Mission, Tali tells Shepard that she has taken a small fever, and proceeds to explain how is it like to live in a suit, and explains that the most intimate thing Quarians can do with other Quarians is to link their suit environments, they would get sick and then adapt, but it's an act of acceptance and trust. She then explains nervously that hasn't trusted anyone enough for that, or at least, not Quarians. Shepard can show interest. Then at the final mission stage, she will ask if he's still interested, then if Shepard shows interest, she will at some point tell Shepard she took antibiotics and some herbal supplements willing to remove her suit.

First Meeting in ME3

You will need to be patient if you want to have a romance sequence and have her as Shepard's love interest. Tali doesn't appear until halfway to the game, Shepard meets her during your first diplomatic meeting with the Quarians, specifically the mission, Priority: Geth Dreadnought. When you have a conversation with her, tell her "I want to help you", and then ask her with "Do you still want me?", this will have Shepard ask her about the relationship that they have - she'll then mention that if Shepard wants to talk in private, he may want to invite her up to his cabin.

How to Lock in Tali

Meeting at the Captain's Cabin

IMPORTANT! After the first conversation with Tali, you must trigger or have Tali meet Shepard in his cabin aboard the Normandy, and this must be done before the mission, Priority: Rannoch. If you miss this opportunity, you won't be able to lock in the relationship with her. Complete side missions first during the war between the Quarian and the Geth, and wait for a message from Tali, when you do get the message, reply and ask her to meet in the captain's cabin. This is where you can rekindle your relationship by selecting the dialogue line "I want to be with you" - since you've locked in Tali, you'll be treated to additional dialogue scenes abord the Geth Dreadnought, as well as during the mission, Priority: Rannoch.

Priority: Rannoch

During this mission, you will have to choose between keeping the Geth around or making sure that Tali lives. There is also a way for you to maintain both outcomes, but if you simply just want Tali to live, simply side with the Quarians, on the other hand, side with the Geth, but this causes Tali to die if you don't meet certain requirements:

  • You need at least 80% of the bar filled, either Paragon or Renegade.
  • In Mass Effect 2, you must have activated Legion, must have survived the suicide mission, and completed his Loyalty Mission.
  • Complete the Rannoch: Geth Fighter Squadrons mission in Mass Effect 3.
  • Acquired five points by completing the following tasks such as (1) Saving the Admiral during the mission on Rannoch, (2) Completed the mission Rannoch: Admiral Koris, (3) Saved Tali from exile during the events in Mass Effect 2, (4) Brokered peace between Tali and Legion in ME2, (5) and destroyed the Heretic Geth during Legion's loyalty mission in ME2.

If you have at least 5 points and more, Shepard's plea will be a success and both the Quarians, Geth, and Tali will live. On the other hand, if you can't pass the check, as mentioned, choose the option of saving the Quarians. If you choose to save the Geth, Tali will commit suicide.

Events after Priority: Rannoch

You can find Tali at the Engineering Bay of the Normandy after the said mission. You'll receive a gift from her when you talk to her, which is the controversial picture of her without her helmet. This picture can be found in your room. If you're on the Citadel, you can find her at the Presidium Commons. If players own the Citadel DLC, you can personally have her join missions as well and there are additional dialogue scenes with Tali.

Priority: Earth

In the events during the final mission, Priority: Earth, Tali will visit Shepard in his cabin on the Normandy where the Romance Scene will trigger and you'll have your last moments with her before the assault on Cerberus HQ. To make sure that the romance scene is triggered, use the following dialogue lines:

  • When Tali says you could use some company, answer her with "Yes, I Could".

Your next interaction with her is the calm before the storm, before heading towards the conduit beam, speak to her to have an intimate conversation with Tali. In the Extended Cut/DLC, during the final charge to the conduit beam, a Mako will overturn and land dangerously next to her. If Shepard's EMS is 1,749 or lower, a Harbinger will vaporize Tali with the laser beam. On the other hand, if it is 1,750 or higher, she will just be injured by the Mako and Shepard calls for an emergency extraction where the two will have their final moments.

Ending with Tali

After the firing of the Crucible, Tali will be seen placing Shepard's name on the Memorial Wall. On the other hand, if you picked Destroy and your EMS is 3,100 or more, she will smile and refrain from placing the plaque sensing that Shepard is still alive, and the Normandy is seen flying off.
