How to Romance Thane Krios
Requirements
Thane Krios is a character who made his first appearance in Mass Effect 2. Players must import their save file or progress in ME2 and Thane must survive the events in Mass Effect 2, specifically, the Suicide Mission (Final Battle). Most importantly, female Shepard must have romanced him in ME2. It is important to take note or remind the player that in ME3, Thane is terminally ill due to his condition which is Kepral's Syndrome. Thane in Mass Effect 3 is basically rekindling the relationship between him and Shepard and that you are locking him in as your love interest.
Romancing Thane in Mass Effect 2
While talking with Thane, he will begin showing his personal side by talking about his illness first, then in the next conversation, he will talk about his family. This will unlock his Loyalty Mission: to stop his son from becoming an assassin. After his Loyalty Mission, he will talk about his childhood, culture, and then about a certain past moment. Shepard notices his accurate memory and in the next conversation Shepard can ask him about it, Thane will say that his species have perfect memory, and they'll talk about guilt. He then will appreciate Shepard's presence, here Shepard can slide a comment that she doesn't want to be only friends. If Shepard keeps showing interest in him, Thane will start calling her "Siha". In the final mission stage, he will approach Shepard, and tell her he talked to his son, feeling very uneasy because he wants to be in peace and talk about everything he did to achieve peace, hitting the table. Shepard will calm him down and ask him to be alive. A love scene shows.
Thane in Mass Effect 3
Upon completing Priority: Palaven, you'll receive word from Thane via an e-mail he sends to Shepard's private terminal. In the e-mail, he asks you to meet him at the Huerta Hospital of the Citadel. During the conversation, if you had a romance with Kaidan Alenko during Mass Effect 1, choose the dialogue "We were intimate once", but on the other hand, if you didn't, just select Paragon interrupt to kiss him, this further cements the relationship moving forward.
Cerberus' Attack on the Citadel
During the events of Priority: The Citadel II, Cerberus launches an attack on the Citadel and an assassin is sent to take out the council. Since Thane is alive, you will find him fatally wounded because he was protecting the Salarian Councilor, with this, it will gradually shorten his time to live.
After fending off Cerberus, speak to Commander Bailey and then head back to Huerta Memorial Hospital to check up on Thane. You'll learn that his time is about to come and that there is nothing that can be done to save him. Take this moment to say your goodbyes, and your last interactions with Thane will be through exchanged e-mails. - at a later point of the game, you can use a Renegade interrupt option against Kai Leng when you cross paths in the Cronos Station to exact revenge for what he did to Thane.
How to Lock in Thane Krios
The moment you lock in your relationship with Thane is when you kiss him at the Huerta Memorial Hospital in your first meeting. During the conversation, if you had a romance with Kaidan Alenko during Mass Effect 1, choose the dialogue "We were intimate once", but on the other hand, if you didn't, just select Paragon interrupt to kiss him, this further cements the relationship moving forward.
Mass Effect 3: Citadel
For players who own the Citadel DLC, you are treated to extra scenes and dialogues that point out to the late Thane. The DLC serves as a closure between the relationship of Shepard and Thane, as well as a memorial to honor him. Here, it is shown that Shepard, the crew, and Koylat hold a funeral to honor him.
After the funeral, players can head to the main bedroom on the upper floor and use the screen to watch the video messages that Thane has left for Shepard. He'll recall your intimate moment since you were able to romance him in Mass Effect 2. There are about four video messages here that you can watch. The morning after the party while the rest of the crew starts boarding the Normandy, Shepard continues to look out at the ship from the Docking Bay.
If Shepard has no other love interest who stops for a final word with her, Thane's spirit walks up to her, telling her that he is glad that she was able to have the time to celebrate. Shepard responds that she wished Thane was with her. Thane tells her that he will always be with her and he will never trade the time he had with her. He then says it was a good fight; Shepard smiles, saying it was a great fight. Thane tells her to finish it and when she goes to the sea, he "will be waiting for her at the shore." As Shepard turns to return to the Normandy, Thane's spirit has disappeared from the scene.
